SATB (Short/Open score)



A rare but dead easy question if it comes up.


“SATB” is the acronym for Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass and this question will either ask you to convert an extract of music written for these voice from “short” to “open” score or vice versa.


“Short score” is when the music is notated on the (piano) grand staff, and “open score” is when the the music is notated on four staves, each voice having its own staff.

You only need to know the following ornaments - appoggiatura, acciaccatura, mordent, turn and trill.


When writing the ornament take care with any accidentals as shown below.
